History

One of the leading insitutions of Punjab, situated on National Highway (G.T. Road), Amritsar, Khalsa College For Women, established in 1968, is a premier Sikh Institution and a gateway to acadimic and professional excellence having the proud privilege of working under the auspices of Khalsa College Governing Council, Amritsar. In the 49th All India Sikh Educational Conference held at Khalsa College, Amritsar in February 1968, it was resolved to establish separate institution for women. In July, the governing council of Khalsa College finally endorsed the resolution and Sardar Bahadur S. Ujjal Singh ji, then President of Governing Council and Governor of Madras state, formally inaugurated Khalsa College for Women. Started with a small inception of 60 students, now the bud has bloomed into full fledged institution having the strength of eleven hundred students.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

• Furtherance of higher education amongst women irrespective of caste, color or creed.
• To groom the personality of the women and provide them the necessary education to enable them to enter into 21^st century.
• To provide options in diverse fields according to aptitude.
• To provide them need-based, career oriented courses (like DCA, PGDCA, PG Diploma in Textile Designing, PG Diploma in Journalism, M.A. (Punjabi), M.Sc. (Computer Science) and Mass Communication) along with regular traditional courses (like BA/B.Sc./B.Com.).
• To provide latest technology and infrastructure to keep abreast in IT world.
• To provide platform of extra curricular activities and sports for personality development.
• To inculcate moral and spiritual values in students.

Affiliated to G.N.D.U (Estd. 1968)--- a 35 years old premier girls' institution committed to the cause of furthering quality education amongst girls.

Results

The college always has excellent results with many merit positions. The students excel not only in academics but also in the sphere of co-curricular activities and sports. This could be possible only by the strenuous efforts put in by highly dedicated, devoted and qualified teaching faculty, that has produced a glaxy of alumni which has touched the high watermarks in thier career.

The Computer Science Department

The computer centre situated ideally in the centre of college is quite spacious, spotless, and well furnished. There are three computer labs having more than 50 latest computers, three dot-matrix printers, two ink-jet printers, one scanner, and one multimedia projector with latest software for the use of students. The college offers various courses in computers like B.Sc. (IT), PGDCA, M.Sc. (Computer Science) as a subject in three year degree course and Diploma in Computer Application. Latest books concerning computers have been purchased by the college for the library.  

The Conference Hall

To enhance the presentation of lectures, the college has a good audio-visual setup. Beautiful conference hall is being used with the gadgets ranging from Multimedia Projector, OHP, TV, VCR, Audio Players and Sound Systems etc.  

Guidance & Counselling Cell

Keeping in view the interest and aptitude of the students, placement cell guides them in the selection of subjects and courses for further studies. Cell also help the students seeking jobs.
