SEMINAR ON "AGRICULTURE COOPERATION BETWEEN INDIA & USA " IN KHALSA COLLEGE AMRITSAR

 

Dr. Robert D. Hormats, Under Secretary, Department of Economic, Energy and Agriculture Affairs, U.S.A. delivered a lecture on "Agriculture Cooperation between India and U.S.A." at Khalsa College, Amritsar..

 

Addressing a massive gathering of staff and students Dr. Hormats said that Agriculture is a major field where the two countries can cooperate to provide better crops and diet to the entire world. Encouraging the students he said that many of them had the energy and potential to lead the way and change the course of the world. He felt that both countries can help each other in areas like science, clean energy and space technology. "This will pave way for better opportunities," he said.  

 

 Discussing the need of second green revolution, Dr. Hormats said that it is required but "not at the cost of our environment". It has to be positive supportive and "environmentally friendly". He highlighted on the importance of satellite technology. This would help to predict the accuracy of monsoon in India an help the farmers to plan their crops and fertilizers accordingly

 

 Dr. Hormats felt that India and US can cooperate to prevent wastage of food crop, provide better storage facilities. He said that better communication development and distribution will improve "Farm to Market' strategy.    

 

 He also talked about organic farming and felt that Biotechnology can play a vital role in developing new varieties..

 

Welcoming Dr. Homats on this occasion Principal, Dr. Daljit Singh said that his experience learning and expertise will benefit our staff and students. He also informed the foreign guests that Khalsa Agriculture College was the only such college in India before the Partition of India.
